Blaming Yuvraj Singh for India’s loss in the World T20 2014 final - Is it wise?

Yuvraj Singh name has always been associated with the word ‘fighter and winner’ who has led Team India to many a memorable victories in the past. But this time things are different. He is receiving a lot more criticism for his batting failure against Sri Lanka in the final of ICC World Twenty20. Is it wise to blame Yuvraj Singh for India’s loss in the World T20 2014 final?

Yes

• Yuvraj Singh just scored 11 runs in 21 ball in the ICC WT20 final against Sri Lanka that is not at all acceptable from a batsman in the 20-20 match.

• If Yuvraj was finding it hard to rotate the strike or making runs, then it was best to take extra risks.

• Yuvraj Singh ignored the important fact that India had eight wickets that time and so losing wicket was not an issue.

• Because of his poor innings the in-form batsman didn’t have the chance to make runs. Virat Kohli just faced eight balls in the last four overs.

• Yuvraj Singh was unable to play any meaningful inning in any of the match in WorldT20 in Bangladesh. The performance was dismal.

No

• It is just another game and people should not forget that winning and losing both are a part of game.

• Cricket is a about team’s performance not about an individual’s performance. So it is the team who should be blamed, not Yuvraj.

• It was Yuvraj who significantly contributed in winning T20 World Cup in 2007.

• No one can ever forget the contribution of Yuvraj in winning the ODI World Cup in year 2011.

• It is ok to criticize a player when he doesn’t perform well but people should remember that there is a difference between criticism and blaming.

• Yuvraj has fought with adversities in the tough times and even he has the right to have a bad day.

• Blame the Captain who didn’t make the right use of the best bowler Ravichandran Ashwin in the game.

Conclusion

It is not at all fair to blame Yuvraj for India's loss in the ICC World T20 final. Cricket is like life with its share of ups and downs. Yuvraj has the mantle to do better and he has proved the same in the past.

  • There is absolutely nothing wrong in blaming Yuvaraj, he deserves its. It is not losing to Sri Lanka that hurt a cricket fan, but the dismal approach of a talented player like Yuvaraj, his commitment on that day was far below par and his body language was even worst.

When a player gets kudos for a good performance, he/she should be prepared to receive criticism and blame for a bad/non-committal approach to the game.
