Junk food should be restricted in and around schools.

Junk food should be restricted in and around schools.

The USDA introduced new food rules termed as Smart Snacks in School rules with effect from July 1, 2014. As per the rules, all the junk foods will be banned in and around school from July 1. Even India wants to implement the similar system. In September 2013, the High Court had formulated a 13-memebr committee to review the issue. The final guidelines have been submitted in March 2014. The committee believes that banning junk food in and around schools can make a difference. Do you support the new guidelines? Should junk food be restricted in and around schools?

Yes

• School is considered as a place where children learn about right and wrong. They should not be allowed choose the wrong food during their lunch time. The right learning should be implemented in all aspects.

• Day by day the percentage of obese people is increasing in the country. And it all starts when you initially develop the wrong eating habits in school.

• There is no one to keep a watch on the children as to what they are eating and how much they are consuming. The limit is the problem.

• Children spend their most of the time in school. They cannot afford to have a a weak immune system from a tender age. It reduces the life span in longer term.

• Children aren’t mature and they don’t understand the difference between right and wrong. If school will provide healthy food then they will accept it at some point, which is really good in longer term.

No

• Schools may restricts the children when they are in the school premises but how will they restrict the students from eating the junk food outside.

• If junk food is restricted around the school then it will also affect the people living or working in that area. They will suffer without a reason.

• The restriction of junk food around the school area will affect the people who earn their livelihood by selling this food. Many of them have to suffer to find new place and new market.

• Parents are only leading their children to the path of junk food. They are spoilt so much with the choices. When they don’t have any restriction at home then why they should have in school.

• Ban the junk food and make the children more stubborn to get the junk food. They can get sneaky to find the junk food at some other places.

• Student’s decision making process also starts from school. They need to learn how to make their own choices.

Conclusion

Banning the junk food is in no way a good solution to stop the children from consuming junk food. They will have it in any case. The decision can although have negative impact on other things. Moderation is the key here. Restrict the sell of junk food but banning them will only forces students to want it more.

  • Junk food has become the major constituent of the diet course of children today. With the increase in the sedentary lifestyle with total lack of physical sport and activities, these junk food cause a lot of harm to the health condition, thereby leading to the lifestyle disorders initiating at a very young age of life.

Selling the junk food within and in the vicinity of the school premises is like an invitation for the kids to get diseased. This type of eatables should definitely be banned around the schools. The street hawkers should be restricted around the school area. Children should also be well educated regarding the harmful effects of the junk food.

Such type of eatables get a good sales around the schools and tuition points, attracting the children to come up and get addicted to the items. But we need to think much ahead of the small monetary gains. Children today are our future youth who are going to run our nation. Getting them diseased at a tender age is like ruining the future of our country and indirectly ourselves. Hence, it’s high time to focus on these criteria and move towards a healthy generation ahead.
