Civil Disobedience, a key to gain political stability in Pakistan?

Introduction

The call to the civilians of Pakistan by former cricket star turned politician Imran Khan for the civil disobedience movement has raised many questions in front of the democratic set-up. Khan who is opposing the prevailing government and demands the resignation of the currently prevailing government has started with the demonstrations and rallies in the state to show his opposition of the Sharif’s governance. But asking the public to stop paying the utility bills and taxes to the government turned the movement severe. Is the civil disobedience really the only key to question the prevailing governance and establish the political stability in the country?

Yes

- Pakistan has a democratic set-up. A rule where the government is by the people, of the people and for the people. If the prevailing governance is not efficient, then people can play the role to get the stability back for their country.

- There needs to be some clause to question the current government, provided they undergo any misconduct or fail to meet their words. Till the people lack a strong legal move to raise their concern, they need to take up some tool to mend the prevailing situation.

- People should have some legal means to hook up the government and keep a check on them. Provided there is no such provision, civil disobedience is the only way of projecting their opposition towards the government.

No

- Civil Disobedience is a threat to the democratic set-up. It should not be used as a tool in any scenario.

- If people themselves fail to follow the law and order in the country, then how can they question the lawlessness of any other person, be that a political leader, a government or a common man?

- Democracy is a government by the people. They can approach on legal grounds to question the orderliness and dutifulness of a leader. Disobedience and breaking the regulations of the country is no charm to the country’s image and dignity.

- Denying the payment of the bills and taxes is not a hit for the government but it is a indirect hit for the common man himself. The revenue collected through taxes and bills are used for the development of the utility of the general public which will face the concern.

- Civil disobedience will make the financial market unstable and affect the economy of the country. It should not be a way of reflecting the opposition.

- Such movements could start undue agitations throughout the country which will affect the lives of common man.

Conclusion

Though people might not be satisfied by the prevailing governance, still there should be some legal and lawful proceeding to raise their concern. The civil disobedience is an unacceptable move in a democratic set-up. Even the other political parties of Pakistan have backed up for Imran Khan’s call for the civil disobedience movement. Denying the payment of the bills and taxes is refusal of taking up the responsibilities by the citizens. It is no good for the country and its economy. Hence, the civil disobedience should not be considered as a key for the political stability, and people should come up with a lawful approach to raise their concern.

  • Of Course there is some reason by which a government is fail to maintain political stability due to some favorable or some unfavorable condition but there is not need to break the rule which is for benefit of civilian.
By civil disobedience the system will be unstable by which people have to face many problem.
In democracy it is for man of man and by man but meaning is different as we know
when this type of sitution will arise instead of civil disobedience if people gives pressure its better.

  • Let us start with the discussion with the understanding of key word, Civil Disobedience. It is nothing but a simple act of not complying with the certain laws or the act of denial to pay taxes and fines done in order to show the protest against the unjust laws. Past has shown that civil disobedience has remained as a peaceful way of political protest. Most of the protests were done to disobey unjust laws. And, it is ok to follow the Civil disobedience when you are not happy with the government and its law.

However, in the particular discussion the matter is restricted to Pakistan and is linked with the major issue of political stability. It should be noted that political instability has always remained as a major problem in Pakistan. After a long time, Mr. Sharif’s victory in 2013 elections came as a hope to revive the Pakistani economy. Mr. Khan’s party became a significant political party during that time but failed to garner enough votes.

Clearly, without any doubt, the civil disobedience in Pakistan is not going to bring any political stability. It will only become a means to hamper the constructive works of the existing economy. Mr. Khan’s party was considered as a party that will contribute into growth of economy. But a country where already economy is suffering from a low tax collection rate, the step like civil disobedience is nothing but a pure waste of time.
