Raise, Rise, or Raze


Raise: It means to lift, elevate, grow or promote. It is a transitive verb.

For example:

Rise: It means to ascend, increase, get up or go from lower to higher level. It is an intransitive verb.

3. Rise in petrol prices led to fury, protests and strikes in the country.

Raze: It means to destroy, demolish or erase off completely. It is also called ‘rase’ and is a transitive verb.

For example:

1. The ice needs to be razed if we want to open the door and step out of the house.

2. Hundreds of slum houses would be razed if the builder succeeds in getting permits for the building of resort in the area.

3. Corruption, poverty, inequality, and illiteracy have to be completely razed for India to see the light of development.
