TIME Magazine Releases List of 25 Best Inventions for 2014
TIME Magazine has just released a list of 25 “Best Inventions of 2014” that are "making the world better, smarter and-in some cases-a little more fun."
Mangalyaan also featured among the best inventions of 2014 by the magazine which described it as a technological feat that will allow India to flex its “interplanetary muscles,” according to a report by The Hindu.

Mangalyaan Makes It To the List

“Nobody gets Mars right on the first try. The U.S. didn’t, Russia didn’t, the Europeans didn’t. But on September 24, India did. That’s when the Mangalyaan ...went into orbit around the Red Planet, a technological feat no other Asian nation has yet achieved,” TIME said about Mangalyaan, giving it the sobriquet of being “The Supersmart Spacecraft.”

Mangalyaan was developed by the Indian Space Research Organisation. This Mars Mission spacecraft was developed at the cost of USD 74 million, which Indian PM Narendra Modi remarked was less than the budget for award winning movies like Gravity.

The Blue Room and Osmo

The list of the 25 best inventions also included two developed by Indians. The first called the “Blue Room” was an exercise space for prisoners who were placed in solitary confinement. The Blue Room was developed by noted forest ecologist and college professor Nalini Nadkarni along with the Oregon based Snake River Correctional Institution for inmates in solitary confinement who need release.

It is for these prisoners that the Blue Room was developed so that they could experience the healing effects of nature. Ex Google engineer Pramod Sharma developed a tablet toy that gets physical and called it Osmo. he developed this toy because he did not want his child to remain glued to a tablet all day long. The invention debuted in October and it has raised USD 14.5 million and is now being sold via the Apple Store.

Other Cool Inventions

Other inventions that were also in the list included a reactor developed by Lockheed Martin, Apple’s smart watch which can send messages, provide directions, track fitness and make wireless payments besides just telling the time. Microsoft Surface Pro 3 a hybrid laptop that bundles into a 12 inch tablet and can run desktop apps was also part of the list. Another awesome invention which made it to the list was Witricity which is Wireless Electricity and this involves a magnetic field created by a plug in coil which can power objects as far as 8 feet away.

Also included was the world’s smartest all purpose party cooler which stores food as well as drinks along with a blender, LED light lid, USB charger, Bluetooth speaker and big wheels for different types of terrain. A chip that stops people from slouching called Lumo Lift was also part of the list. The BMW i3 was also part of the list; it drives 70 to 110 miles on a single 3 hour charge. Bananas that prevent blindness and a filter that fights Ebola were some of the other amazing inventions which were listed among the 25 best ones in 2014 by TIME.
