MLA Adarsh Gram Yojana: Launched by Gujarat CM Anandiben Patel


Gujarat CM Anandiben Patl launched the MLA Adarsh Gram Yojana in conjunction with the concept of the ideal village-Adarsh Gram Yojana on 23 November, 2014. Under the MLA Adarsh Gram Yojana, the Lilapur village of Daskroi taluka in Ahmedabad district was adopted an an idea village.

About the MLA Adarsh Gram Yojana

The MLA Adarsh Gram Yojana is not limited to basic amenities and facilities such as road and drinking water among other things. It also aims for proper education facilities as well as health facilities within each Adarsh village.

182 MLAs were asked by the Gujarat CM to adopt one village in each of their constituencies and work wholeheartedly for its development. The Gujarat CM also directed the government authorities to work in collaboration and coordination with people. They must also take up development work in the villages where it is needed the most.

The administration was also directed to ensure that a meeting of village elders is held to provide physical amenities as part of development projects within a time bound manner. Villagers were also asked to voluntarily pick up a task of cleanliness.

Top priority was accorded to cleanliness in every street as well as drain and locality in the village and this includes toilets in every home as well as school.

Adoption of the Village

At a function organised in Lilapur, the Gujarat CM adopted the village. She also urged the people to plant five trees and celebrate the birth of girl child in the village. The CM also requested the people to maintain hygiene in the village and not litter the roads. Later, she directed the government authorities to also work in tandem with the people and take up development work in villages where these are needed the most.

Patel also reiterated the government’s commitment to provide a toilet in every home in two years. The CM also urged people to recycle garbage and make best use of fuels such as cow dung.

Launching the scheme, Patel said that the “MLA Adarsh Gram Yojana should not be limited to having basic facilities like road and drinking water among other things, but each Adarsh village should have proper education facilities and health facilities.” The CM herself took a broom and cleaned an area of the village along with the villagers. CM Anandiben Patel wished that all MLAs of Gujarat would make Prime Minister’s dream of Sansad Adarsh Gram initiative real by adopting one village.

About Lilapur

Lilapur has a population of around 1,200 people and it is located in the assembly constituency area of Ghatlodia. Lilapur has not completed 40% CC road works and 20% of its drainage works and 33% of toilet construction remains unfinished as of now. The village also needs a health centre and a better crematorium. With CM Anandiben Patel’s new initiative, there is hope for this village in Gujarat.
