Civil servants or local politicians - who hold a higher stature in India

Civil servants as well as local politicians both hold an important status in our country for the general public. Let us just go through the facts.

For:

- Both the civil servants and local politicians work goes hand in hand, on one hand, the politicians make policies whereas the civil servants help in implementing those policies
- The civil servants as well as politicians are employed to serve the country and work in coalition so as to benefit the nation
- IAS or IPA jobs were considered to be the most reverential job
- The foundations for the recruitment of an civil professional were based on discipline and integrity
- Both the civil servants or local politicians are responsible to maintain the social stability in the country and thus providing the veracious atmosphere for the development of the country

Against:

- The civil servants do not have a take once the decision by the politician has been taken and finalised, he has no other option left but to implement it
- Although the civil servants carry an important status in our country but it is often found that the politicians try to overpower them and also dominate on them, and hence any inequality done against a civil servant does not contains of any flouting of the fundamental rights personified in the constitution
- The ministers anticipate ‘blind obedience’ from the civil servants in the current situation even though if they are doing anything which is illegal. The current example of such a case is of “Durga Shakti Nagpal Case”
- Initially, if the civil servants did not toil as per the minister’s order they were transferred into some other department, but the scenario has completely changed, if the civil servants displease the ministers, the ministers either physically assault them or put up a unconvinced departmental enquiry
- Today people join IAS or IPA services just to earn some extra money and not for the respectful job that it was considered in earlier years, and hence it’s not just the politicians who are greedy but even a lot of civil servants are greedy and act zealously

Conclusion:

Looking at the current scenario neither does the civil servant nor does the local politician holds a higher stature in our country. Unless both of them get out of the corruption loop, they will not be able to concentrate on the development and also will be unsuccessful in carrying a respectful image in the minds of the people.

  • In our country India, both the local politicians as well as the civil servants are given equal importance and stature. As the job of both the designations go hand in hand, it is not easy to say which is higher than the other. On one hand where the politicians are those who make the policies for our country, on the other hand civil servants are those people who efficiently implement these policies. Unless good and effective policies are not made the country cannot go ahead on the path of development. But only the creation of policies is not enough. Unless civil servants effectively implement these policies, however good policies we have will be of no use. Civil servants are the true leaders in the real sense. They go through a tough process to reach this position and receive the powers bestowed upon them. While politicians occupy the driving seat of the stature because it is them who makes the policies for our country. Such policies which can either make or break our country. Thus both local politicians and civil servants enjoy equal stature.

  • For:

    • Civil servants hold higher stature in India as they have responsibilities towards the nation. They help in implementing the policies.

    • Civil services are considered to be the most respectful jobs among the youngsters.

    • Civil servants help in the proper functioning of the rules and regulations country.

    Against:

    • Local politicians hold a higher stature in India as they have responsibilities towards the nation. They make policies for their area.

    • Local politicians hold a higher stature in India as once the decision by the politician has been made, then the civil servants are not left with any option to implement it.

    • Most of the times politicians try to overpower civil servants for their own benefits or to get their work done.

    • In the current scenario, politicians want civil servants to blindly obey them even if they doing illegal things. If they don’t support them in their illegal means or displease them, the politicians put up an unconvinced department enquiry against them.

    • In earlier years, IAS or IPA services were respectable positions among the people. But now it has just become a means to earn some extra money. Now people working on these positions are not loyal any more towards their nation, lowering the value of civil services.
