How is Appraisal done in CMMI?

It has a wide range of modes which include internal process improvement and external capability finding methodologies. SCAMPI processes help in identifying the strength and weaknesses of current practices and processes, and determine ratings. The appraisal method includes preliminary observations, findings and ratings, reporting and other activities. It allows for determining that the quality of products has increased and also provides better predictability for effort and time needed for future developments. Usually, a lead appraiser is hired based on knowledge, culture, experience and enthusiasm towards process improvement.
