B Sc in Nautical science deals with the study related to the maritime studies. It is a 3 years course which covers both the theoretical as well as practical aspects with much importance to the practical sessions. The students need to have passed 12th science stream with 50% marks individually in all the subjects viz. Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English to be eligible to apply for this course and the age limit should be between 17-25 years. Along with these students should also comply to the medical standards of physical and mental fitness.
After the completion of the course the students need to undergo a compulsory 1 year sea service, following which they need to clear an oral examination. This makes the students eligible to obtain the “Second mate’s Foreign-going Certificate of Competency”. This certificate makes the candidates eligible to attain the post of Navigation Officer in Merchant Navy. Interested aspirants can serve another 18 months of service at sea and again clear a written and oral examination to attain the First Mate’s Foreign-going Certificate of Competency”. And again after 12 months of sea service and clearing written and oral examination, “Master’s Foreign-going Certificate of Competency” could be obtained.
