Job prospects in Mountaineering

I am 12th pass out and much fascinated about mountaineering. I want to know the courses for mountaineering and more importantly the job prospects for the same.

It is always good to join a field with passion. Mountaineering is a field of work that requires physical fitness along with firm determination. The acceptable age for mountaineering ranges from 16-40 years. For those interested in water sport courses along with mountaineering, swimming becomes a mandatory qualification.

The mountaineering course is broadly classified into basic and advanced. The basic one is a 26 day course and the advanced one is of 28 days period. There are also basic, intermediate and advanced level courses for skiing. There are many mountaineering institutes which conduct these courses in India. A few of them namely Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, Darjeeling, Nehru Mountaineering institute, Uttarkasi etc.

Mountaineering is a booming sector and demand is increasing for mountaineering guides. The job prospects for the trained mountaineers ranges from defence forces like Army, navy, Air Force, BSF, ITBP, to tour operators, trainers, Search and rescue operators etc.
