What should be an ideal educational background to become a software engineer – Electrical engineering or computer science?

Software engineering mainly requires knowledge of algorithm and data structure and other related conceptions in detail at the background. Such knowledge is gained by those with a background qualification in Computer Science. Software engineering mainly deals with software like CAD and that too most importantly AutoCAD. Such software can be better utilized and operated by those with computer science background in contrast to the electrical engineers.

Both computer science students and electrical engineers have some degree of similarity in their logical thinking process and both of them being able to analyze the things mathematically becomes handy with the operations. The difference lies in the fact that Electrical engineers know how to work with the things and design components for manufacturing the computers; whereas the computer science students knows the programming and optimum utilization of the components. Hence, for a software engineer, computer science background would always have an upper hand.
