What is your management style? How do you make decisions?Asked by: Guest

It happened at two interviews, when the interviewer asked me my style of management. I was pretty confused and replied this with some of the examples from my past career. I am totally unaware whether the interviewer was anyway pleased with my procedure. How should I tackle this question?

This kind of question is usually a part of competency based interviews for managerial roles. The purpose is to understand whether the potential candidate would blend or compliment the company’s management team. Usually the best one can do is to honestly explain the personal management style and the thought process one applies while decision making. One should also keep in mind that different companies have different cultures which needs to be taken into account and one needs to be flexible in his approach so as to understand the culture and mould his own working style and adjust thought process.
It would be helpful to do a background research in the company and if you know someone who is already working there, then communicate with them and enquire about the work culture. Another thing to keep in mind is that majority of companies prefer people who have the ability to take spontaneous decisions, but no one prefers people who take decisions without having the relevant facts, analysing pros and cons and estimating the impact of the decision.
