1 in 4 people will be above 60 by 2050 according to WHO estimates as between 2000 and 2050, number of world’s population above 60 years will double to 22% from 11%. In absolute numbers, the rise will be from 901 million in 2015 to 1.4 billion by 2030 and 2.1 billion by 2050. The number could rise to 3.2 billion by 2100. Europe will have 34% of its population above 60 by 2050. The percentage in Asia, Caribbean and Latin America will be 25%. India will be facing the feminisation of its raging population. Quarter of the world’s elderly will be in India by 2015 and constitute more than 12% of the population by 2026.
