Ammu also known as Great Hornbill is the State bird of Kerala and was selected as the Mascot of the Games to reflect state’s concern for conservation of this species. The mascot found its place in the record books for its play, Kalikkunna Kuttikalkkayi Bharatham Kathirikkunnu (India Awaits Children Who Play) featuring the bird in lead role. The play was staged in 147 schools in Kerala.
