The 58-year-old Amitav Ghosh had narrowly missed out on the Booker Prize back in 2008 when he was shortlisted for his work 'Sea of Poppies'. The finalists were announced at the University of CapeTown in South Africa by writer and academic Professor Marina Warner, chair of the five-person judging panel.
