    - The process in which a metal is first heated and then plastically deformed by using a hand hammer or press to obtain the an object of desired shape and size is called as forging.

    - The different types of forging processes based on metal working conditions are:

    1) Hot forging process: The deformation of a material is carried out at temperature greater than recrystallization temperature.

    - Aluminum alloys require average temperature of 350° C to 525° C and steel components require average temperature of 1100° C to 1200° C. Straining hardening of materials is avoided in hot forging process.

    2) Cold forging process: The deformation of a material is carried out at temperature below its recrystallization temperature.

    - This process is carried out at room temperature.
