    - Bevel gears are used to connect two intersecting shaft axes. These gears are used for reduction ratio upto 6:1.

    - Based on geometry these gears are classified as:

    1) Straight bevel gears: These gears have conical pitch surface which have straight teeth tapered towards apex.

    2) Spiral bevel gears: These gears have curved teeth which have tooth contact gradual and smooth.

    3) Hypoid bevel gears: These gears are similar to spiral gears but have hyperbolic pitch surfaces. Hypoid gears are used in automobile rear axle.

    4) Zero bevel gear: These gears are similar to bevel gears but have curved teeth and tooth ends are coplanar with the axis.

    - Worm gears are used to connect non-intersecting and perpendicular axes.

    - Crossed helical gears are used to connect non-intersecting and non-parallel axes.
