    - Hole and shaft basis systems are used to study details of various fits.

    - Different shafts are associated with a hole in hole basis system, having lower deviation equal to zero which means minimum hole size is the basic size. They are associated to obtain clearances and tolerances.

    - Similarly in shaft basis system, different holes are associated with a shaft having upper deviation zero which means maximum size of shaft is the basic size.

    - In hole and shaft basis system, maximum metal condition is considered as the reference dimension.

    - Maximum material condition (MMC) refers to dimensions which contain greatest amount of material but are within tolerance zone. Hole diameter, plate thickness, etc are examples of different dimensions considered.
