- They are iron based alloys.
- Cast steel, alloy cast irons, plain carbon steels, etc are examples of ferrous alloys. These ferrous alloys are obtained by refining pig iron and adding different elements depending upon the required combination of mechanical properties.
-
Cast steel:
they have good mechanical properties than cast iron but have worst casting properties. It is an iron alloy having carbon of 1.7%.
- Brass and aluminium are non-ferrous alloys. Non-ferrous alloys consists of metals other than iron as their main constituent.
- Aluminum alloy high thermal and electrical conductivity.
