    There are several factors which decided the cost of various methods necessary to achieve the desired level of system reliability. They include the cost of components, availability of time and manpower for designing purpose, constraints like volume, weight & so on.

    Failure cost is generally computed to be zero for the most reliable product. This implies that, if the value of reliability is equal to unity, then there is no existence of failure rate or its associated cost.

    Thus, the total cost is minimum for the reliability of about 0.5. This is so, because the total cost is directly proportional to the reliability. Hence, the cost goes on increasing due to an increase in reliability level.
