The foundation of centre lathe is called as bed.
It is also called as base of centre lathe.
- It a heavy and rigidly made casting in one piece.
- Usually, the beds are made of grey cast iron, nodular cast iron, or high strength, wear resistance cast iron.
- Grey cast iron has more advantages over the other materials.
1. Grey cast iron is self lubricant
2. It has better shock absorbing capacity
3. It can easily be cast and machined
4. It has excellent compressive strength
- The bed gives support to all the other parts of the centre lathe.
