    Slip gauges are square blocks of metals. They are 10 mm wide and are used as length standards. Gauge blocks are always subjected to wear and hence are always needed to be checked periodically with precise measuring standards.

    Grade 00, grade 0, grade I, grade II and calibration grades are the five grades of slip gauges specified by Indian standard specifications (IS 2984 - 1966) for slip gauges.

    Grade 00 is used for high precision work. For actual production purpose grade II is preferred. The accuracy of grade I and grade II are checked by using standard grade O. Grade I is used in inspection departments.
