- Helical tension springs have all active coils. These active coils are same as the total number of coils.
- These springs are manufactured by hot or cold working process. The type of process depends upon wire diameter, spring index, etc
- Helical compression springs consist of inactive coils.
- The coils which twist or wind in up or down direction in torsion spring are called as
active coils.
These coils contribute to spring action and are present within springs.
Inactive coils
present at the end of the coil do not contribute to spring action.
