Imran Abdulla, another Opposition leader in the Maldives and chief of the Ahdaalath Party has been sentenced to 12-year-long imprisonment. This follows the conviction of former president M. Nasheed for having allegedly ordered the arrest of the chief judge of the Criminal Court and sentenced to 13 years’ imprisonment. UK and US governments have issued a protest at the judgement.
