Basic infrastructure to take up studies on Gas Hydrates in India has been set in three collaborating National laboratories in India. They are –
- National Institute of Ocean Technology, Chennai
- National Centre for Antarctic & Ocean Research, Goa
- National Geophysical Research Institute, Hyderabad.
The Geological Survey of India (GSI) in collaboration with National Institute of Oceanography (NIO) has launched an exploration to locate traces of gas hydrate reserves off the East Coast, particularly in the Krishna-Godavari offshore basin. However entire infrastructure is in the above three institutes.
