    - Machining centre has a capability to reduce the number of set-ups in machining operation, time spent in setting machine tools and transportation between sections of machines.

    - It also reduces the time spent in waiting for machines to become available before the job can be started on.

    - When a NC machine tool is capable of carrying out number of machining operations by itself, which normally require number of different types of conventional machine tools to perform them, then the NC machine tool is called Machining Centre

    - The machining centre is able to perform various machining operations like milling, drilling, reaming, baring, tapping, etc. automatically according to the numerically given instructions on standard punched tapes.

    - Generally, machining centre is used for batch production of main components of a product.
