• Different types of materials such as leather, fabric, rubber and polyester or polyamide are used for belts.
• Polyester or polyamide belts are made of multiple ply belts such as tension ply and friction ply. These two plies are made of different materials. Polyamide strips and polyester cords are generally used in manufacturing tension ply. Friction ply is attached to tension ply and is made of synthetic rubber. These belts need separate friction ply as they do not have high coefficient of friction.
• Generally material used for belts should have high flexibility, durability, high coefficient of friction and strength. Tensile strength for polyamide belts is 400 – 600 N/mm

and polyester belts have 700 – 900 N/mm
