    - Metallography: The study of metals and alloy structures is called as metallography.

    - Microscopy and macroscopy are the different types metallography.

    - The type of information provided by macroscopic examination includes distribution and variation in size of non-metallic inclusions, location and extent of segregation, uniformity of structure, etc. This examination is carried out by using unaided dye or with low power magnifying glass.

    - Microscopic examination provides information about crystalline heterogeneity (manner of solidification), chemical heterogeneity (impurities in metals or alloys, segregation of sulphur or phosphorus) and mechanical heterogeneity (It is caused due to cold working or cold rolling, etc.)
