    The answer in itself is wrong. It should be refractoriness and not refractiveness. The latter is related to the phenomenon of light to bend as it passes from medium of different densities.

    - Refractiveness can be defined as the ability of moulding sand to withstand the heat of melt without showing any sign of softening.

    - As grain size of sand and its content increases, refractiveness also increases.

    - Refractiveness decreases with the increase in amount impurities and silt in sand.
