Nico Rosberg made the announcement that he was retiring days after attaining his lifetime ambition by winning his first world championship with Mercedes.
Rosberg will leave with a record of 23 wins in 206 races and only the second son of a champion to take the title. He followed in footsteps of 1982 winner and father Keke.
Nico announced his retirement from Formula One on 2nd Dec 2016 after grabbing his first ever F1 World Champion title at the season’s final race in Abu Dhabi.
The 31-year-old player beat his Mercedes team mate and 3 time champion Lewis Hamilton by five points.
This is the first time a reigning world champion has decided to quit the sport.
In 1993, Alain Prost announced his retirement after winning his 4th driver’s title.
