    - Software projects are characterized by a large number of different processes.

    - One can distinguish between development processes that are concerned with the evolution of the product, and support processes that manage product entities and development processes (Rombach and Verlage, 1995).

    - Documenting both kinds of processes is required in order to:

    - Capture software development know-how for communication purposes and for improving the knowledge from project to project (Saracelli and
    Bandat, 1993).

    - Demonstrate the organization’s capabilities to customers as required by quality standards such as ISO 9000-3 (International Organization for
Standardization, 1991) and maturity frameworks such as the CMM (Humphrey, 1989).
