During the analysis of frequency response of an amplifier, voltage gain roll off is expressed in dB/octave instead of dB/decade. Generally, the reduction in gain in low frequency region occurs at the rate of 20 dB/decade.

But,according to the concept of octaves, several considerations are taken into account.

Since the value of 1 octave corresponds to either doubling or halving of a frequency, the range of 20 Hz to 40 Hz corresponds to 1 octave while the range of 40Hz to 80Hz belongs to the other octave & so on.

Under this consideration, it is obvious that the rate of -20 dB/decade is approximately equivalent to -6 dB/octave.
