The airfoil body is designed in such a way that the separation occurs at the extreme end of the body, making small wake and accordingly small pressure drag.

An airfoil is a streamline body as its surface coincides with the streamlines when placed a flow. In the case of airfoil, the pressure drag is very small and the skin friction drag has major part in the total drag, even for the high Reynold's number. The resulting force is nearly perpendicular to the direction of flow.

The lift and moments of the airfoil are mainly due to the pressure distribution.
