  • Measure would counter threats to the nation;s democracy.
  • Security measures could facilitate longer detentions for close to 10,000 people who have been rounded up since loyalist security forces and protestors stopped the rebellion.
  • State of emergency announcement will now have to be published in state gazette.
  • Turkey imposed Emergency rule in the SE in 1987 allowing officials to set up curfew, issue research and arrest warrants and restrict gatherings- it was lifted by 2002.
