Erichsen cupping test is a type of destructive test. The sample used in destructive test either breaks or is not useful further. This test is also called as formability test. Ability of sheet metal for deep drawing can be detected by using Erichsen cupping test.

Magnetic particle test is used for detecting deflection of surfaces and sub surface defects and is a non-destructive test. Different steps are followed in this procedure such as cleaning the surface, magnetizing the metallic component, observation or inspection and demagnetization. Magnetic particle test is suitable for ferromagnetic components. This method requires semiskilled person.

Dye penetrant test detects surface discontinuities such as seams, laps, surface cracks etc. This is also a non-destructive test which causes no damage to test specimen and can reused.
