A multiplate clutch is called as wet clutch. It is called as wet clutch because cooling oil is used.
Multiplate clutches have serious problem of heat dissipation as it is compact in construction and has high torque transmitting capacity due to number of contact surfaces.
As cooling oil is required for lubrication it is called as wet clutch.
