    - Strength and hardness of such alloys is enhanced by forming small dispersed particles of second phase in original phase matrix. Appropriate heat treatment is used to accomplish this.

    - As these small particles are known as precipitates, this process is called as precipitation hardening.

    - The solubility of solute in solvent should decrease when temperature decreases. The different steps followed in precipitation hardening are: solutionizing, quenching and aging.

    - Homogeneous solid solution is also called as supersaturated solid solution. The α phase is obtained when θ phase (CuAl2) is completely dissolved at grain boundaries at 540° C.
