Scuffing or galling is a lubrication failure. It is caused due to inadequate lubrication or high tooth load. Scuffing can be avoided by providing good surface finish and by maintaining sliding velocity within limit. Pitting is a surface fatigue failure and abrasive wear is caused due to surface injury on matting teeth surfaces.
