    - Universal measuring machine is used to measure different features in a plane, tapered and threaded workpieces.
    Linear dimensions, location and roundness of holes, alignment, flatness, etc are the parameters measured by universal measuring machine.

    - It is a combination of tool maker's microscope and contact type optical measuring machine because a microscope is used to measure movement of anvils in the machine and this microscope is fitted with an ocular eyepiece or an auto collimator.

    - This machine is used for checking limit gauges, thread gauges, and gauge blocks.
