    - If kinematic pairs are classified according to the nature of contact between the links, then they are classified as lower pairs and higher pairs.

    - Lower pairs are formed if two links have surface contact or area contact while transmitting the motion.

    - Sliding or turning motion is possible between the links of lower pairs. Turning, sliding or screw pairs form a low pair.

    - Higher pairs are formed if two links connected have line or point contact between them while transmitting the motion.
    Motion between cam follower is an example of higher pairs.
