Explanation

There are a few drivers of change that are related to the convergence of media. The most important one is the high access to advanced broadband internet connection. In December 2010, there were around 19.60 million active internet users in India, whereas there were 173 million mobile internet users in India in 2014. The latest report suggests that the internet users in India will go up to 213 million by June 2015. Around 71% of the internet users go online at least once in a day. The rise of the user – created content is related to the large-scale distributions and the content produced by the media. The globalisation of media content and services is an important element of the media convergent environment. American or Hollywood movies were an element of the global media scenario during the 20th century. The increase in user – created content is related with the greater control by the users over the media. Today, a lot of media content and media platform choices are available to the users. Professor Henry Jenkins has explained about the relationship between the media convergence and the empowerment of its users.
