What is the purpose of the development plan?The purpose of development plan to elaborate the process of developing the solution. The development plan should be in sync with the functional and technical specification in regards to what is to be built. It acts as a guideline and a set of recommended processes which are to be followed throughout the development of the solution. The plan enlists the primary objectives for choosing the particular development approach. One of the major purposes of development plan is to describe the delivery strategy. i.e. how the delivery channel will be set up for the solution. It also encompasses the information regarding development and build environments and how to manage them. The development plan also holds various information sections describing the coding standards, development processes, naming conventions, version control to be used and other aspects of development to maintain quality and consistency. It lays out the process for daily builds, scheduling of builds, the roadmap for building the solution progressively. The development plan may also include the tools to be used while developing the solution and any information regarding the skill set trainings needed for the team and support activities.
