Differentiate between GSM and CDMA - Telecommunications
Differentiate between GSM and CDMA
GSM
- GSM uses multiple frequencies.
- Uses TDMA and FDMA for accessing signals.
- The voice rate is 9.6 KBPS.
- Uses less bandwidth.
CDMA
- CDMA uses single frequency as carrier.
- The voice rate is 14.4 KBPS.
- CDMA power control to access method is better as Phased Locked Loops are used.
- Follows soft handoff, hence call handling is more efficient.

- gsm is the 2g digital technology,
cdma is the 3g digital technology,
cdma is faster then gsm,
cdms is provide high speed for data and communication . - RE: Differentiate between GSM and CDMA - Telecommunications -mohammad lalbabu (03/08/16)

- GSM:
uses TDMA & FDMA multiple access techniques
modulation technique 0.3 GMSK
channel BW (carrier separation) is 200 kHz
power control 2-7 times /sec
discontinuous transmission
data rate 22.8 kpbs
adaptive equilizer is used at receiver to avoid ISI
CDMA:
uses CDMA multiple access techniques
modulation technique QPSK
channel BW (carrier separation) is 1.25MHz
power control 800 times /sec
continuous transmission
data rate 14.4 kpbs
Rake receiver is used at receiver to avoid ISI

- Gsm is 3rd generation network c and cdma is 2nd generation

- Gsm is a second generation digital network and cdma is a third generation digital network
