Arunachal Pradesh To Get 50 New Border Posts For the ITBP

Defence should not be about playing politics. It should be about guarding the safety of India's citizens. With the controversy over the V. K. Singh-Dalbir Singh Suhag appointment dilemma, new Minister for defence Arun Jaitley has decided which Singh is the King. For now, army chief designate Dalbir Singh Suhag looks to be a solid choice of the NDA government, but who knows what turns the appointment controversy will take. In more heartening news for Indian citizens though, 50 new border posts are being planned for the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP).

Official sources have told prominent news agencies that a proposal for 54 modern posts for the ITBP is being considered by the Union home ministry. It has officially been confirmed that the border guarding force has also given a proposal in this regard. Arunachal Pradesh has also received another gift this year. Stapled visas have been provided to the citizens of AP in a goodwill gesture by China.

Arunachal Pradesh has a total of 1126 km of international border with China. This is the second highest total span of border in the east with a neighbouring country. The position of the first of course goes to Jammu and Kashmir which has a 1597 frontier with eastern neighbouring nations.

Along with the modernization and more effective border management planning, India also needs to provide the best technology for their police personnel an armed forces. Given the spate of incursions in the past, management of India's defence borders are very crucial. Troops must have all the necessary gadgets and facilities so that they can brave the fluctuating temperatures and icy cold.

Another positive aspect of the proposal is that the new border posts will have solar power and they should accommodate regular ITBP guards and a small squad of reinforcements as well. The posts will also be equipped with satellite phone connectivity.

India has over 142 border posts along this frontier. Other prominent border states include Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Sikkim. This frontier is massive along its total length of 3488 km.

Arunachal Pradesh currently has over 30 ITBP border posts but there is a need to increase the presence of paramilitary force to protect India's borders. The border posts are able to reduce the distance between ITBP locations enabling the patrols to access better coordination.

Given the importance of guarding Arunachal Pradesh, a crucial part of the Indo-China border, the sector headquarter of the ITBP has been created in the capital city of Itanagar with about 10,000 men under its command since the year 2004.

There should be no compromise when it comes to providing facilities and amenities for our forces. Many of the posts are located as high as 18,700 feet and heavy snowstorms and blizzards occur for a vast number of months here. If our borders have to be secure, our forces must have adequate facilities. With the right support, our borders can be safe from any type of encursions or encroachments.
