BHEL Campus Placements - Procedure and Information

Bharat Heavy Electricals, commonly known as BHEL which is one of the largest engineering and manufacturing companies in India.

The interview process for BHEL consists of 2 levels, first a written test and next is the personal interview.

The questions included into the written test are divided into 4 sections, technical engineering, basic engineering, verbal ability and lastly quantitative aptitude and includes somewhere around 60 – 70 questions.

Some of the questions are multiple choice questions while some are theoretical questions asking to explain various theorems. The marking ratio is 1 mark for a correct answer and 1.5 marks as negative marking for every wrong answer.

The questions involved in the technical engineering section are based on the specialisation subjects that you have chosen in engineering whereas the questions involved in the basic engineering section are based on the subjects from 12th level physics, chemistry and maths.

The verbal ability section includes questions on logical ability as well as the English language of the candidates. In the verbal ability section the questions are based on sentence correction, synonyms and antonyms, rearranging the jumbled sentences, spelling mistakes.

Some of the questions in the quantitative ability are based on Venn Diagrams, percentages, ratios and averages, speed and work, kinematics, time and distance, geometry.
Logical reasoning questions are based on blood relations, finding the odd man out, arranging the sentences in appropriate order.

Some of the technical questions for the written test that have been asked in the previous years are:

• What is Pappus theorem?

Once you cross the written round it is followed by the personal interview round. This is the last stage of the selection process. The final round is also sub – divided into two sections, the technical round and the HR round.

In the technical round somebody from the team will be interviewing you and the questions are based on the subject, which is of your specialisation, the questions may also vary based on the liking of the subject by the candidate. Once you clear this round, you proceed towards the HR round where in the questions are based on academic background of the candidate, aims and goals in life, family background, strengths and weaknesses.

While you are preparing for the test, keep in mind that you got to be thorough with the basics and in depth knowledge of your academic subjects. Manage your time properly while writing the written test. The main stress is on clearing the written round, once that is done the senior team members check your knowledge and attitude towards life and work.
