Ans. BEE is Bureau of Energy Efficiency National Certification Examination. It specifies the qualification criteria and procedures to certify the Energy Managers and the qualification of the Accredited Energy Auditors. BEE is a National level certification examination and is an empowered qualification for an Energy Manager to be designated as a Certified Energy Manager.
Q. Who is the organizer of BEE?
Ans. BEE is conducted by National Productivity Council (NPC) on behalf of Bureau of Energy Efficiency. Bureau of Energy Efficiency is a legal body under Ministry of Power, Government of India.

Q. What is the Certification criterion for BEE appearing candidates?
Ans. The candidate should score a minimum of 50% marks in all the subjects that the candidate has appeared for the certification examination.
Q. What are the BEE entrance exam eligibility criteria for Energy Managers?
Ans. For certification as Energy Managers, the candidate must possess one of the criteria:
- M.E./M.Tech. with a minimum of two years of work experience
- An engineering graduate with a minimum of three years of work experience
- An Engineering Graduate with post graduation in management and two years of work experience
- Post Graduate in Science field with a minimum of five years of work experience
- Diploma holder with a minimum of six years of work experience
Q. What are the BEE entrance exam eligibility criteria for Energy Auditors?
Ans. For certification as Energy Auditors, the candidate must possess one of the criteria:
- M.E./M.Tech. with a minimum of two years of work experience
- An engineering graduate with a minimum of three years of work experience
- An Engineering Graduate with post graduation in management and two years of work experience
Q. Is it mandatory to have work Experience for BEE certification for Energy Managers and Energy Auditors?
Ans. Yes, it is mandatory to have work experience for BEE certification for Energy Managers and Energy Auditors.
Q. What is the paper pattern for BEE?
Ans. BEE consists of four papers. The examination is conducted in two days .
- I paper: General Aspects of Energy Management and Energy Audit
- II paper: Energy Efficiency in Thermal Utilities
- III paper: Energy Efficiency in Electrical Utilities
- IV paper: Energy Performance Assessment for Equipment and Utility Systems
First three papers have objective type as well as descriptive type questions and each having duration of three hours. Fourth paper has descriptive as well as numerical part and is of two hours of duration.
- For certification as an Energy Manager, the candidate must score a minimum of 50 % marks in I, II and III paper.
- For certification as an Energy Auditor, the candidate must score a minimum of 50 % marks in I, II, III and IV paper.
- Question papers for paper I, II and III are common for Energy Auditor and Energy Manager exams. Candidate passing the Papers I, II and III is eligible for award of Energy Manager Certification.
- The difficulty level of paper IV is higher than other three papers.
- Paper I, II, III are of 150 marks each and paper IV is of 100 marks.
- The candidate has to appear for paper I, II and III for Energy Manager Certification.
- The candidate has to appear for all the four papers for Energy Auditor Certification.
Q. What is the application procedure for application for BEE?
Ans. The candidates aspiring to appear for BEE may register online through the website www.aipnpc.org. The details may also be obtained from www.em-ea.org and www.bee-india.nic.in.
Q. What is the BEE exam fee?
Ans. The BEE application form and prospectus may be obtained by post by sending a crossed DD of Rs 500/- in favor of ‘Bureau of Energy Efficiency’, payable at Chennai. SC/ST/OBC candidates having less than 1 lakh annual income may obtain the form at the cost of Rs 250/- with a copy of required proof.

Ans. BEE examination is held mostly in the month of August.
Q. Where is the BEE entrance examination held?
Ans. The BEE entrance exam and Viva Voce exam is conducted at almost all the major cities of India. The candidate may opt for three test centers of preference for the exam.

Q. Which is the certifying agency for BEEE?
Ans. National Productivity Council (NPC) is the national certifying agency that is authorized to conduct the National Certification Examination for Energy Auditors and Energy Managers.

Ans. Dr. Ambedkar Institute of Productivity (AIP) is the training provider for NPC (National Productivity Council). The institute is located in Chennai. The institute, established in 1963, is empowered to conduct the National Level Certification Examination for Energy Managers and Energy Auditors, by BEE, under the Ministry of Power, Government of India.
Q. If a candidate fails to appear or pass a particular paper in the BEE examination, is one eligible to re-write the exam?
Ans. A candidate who has already registered for BEE but fails to appear or pass the BEE examination shall be eligible to re-write the same paper. The candidate may appear for a maximum number of five consecutive turns within six years of duration from the date of registration. For the same, the candidate has to pay the mentioned supplementary examination fee. The candidate is declared to have passed the exam only if one has secured a minimum of 50% marks in each of the papers else failed. However, the candidate may re- register as a fresh candidate for the exam.
Q. How long is the certificate valid after being certified?
Ans. The certificate holds life time validity subject to the condition that the candidate has to attend a short term refresher training course in a designated institute once in a five year duration commencing from the date of certification. However, the candidate may avail a six month’s extension after the expiry of five years.
Q. Are there any chances of the certificate being withdrawn?
Ans. Yes, if there proved cases of unprofessional practices followed by Energy Manager or the Energy Auditor, the certificate may be withdrawn from the candidate.
Q. Is it possible for a candidate to be upgraded from Energy Manager to Energy Auditor?
Ans. The candidate who has already qualified the Energy Manager Certification and accomplishes the Energy Auditor Certification Criteria is eligible for up gradation from Energy Manager Certification (EM) to Energy Auditor Certification (EA). The eligible candidate has to then only appear for Paper IV i.e. Energy Performance Assessment for Equipment and Utility Systems. The candidate may apply for this up gradation within 5 years from the date of issue of Energy Manager Certification.
Q. What is the certification Fee?
Ans. The certification fee includes the examination fee, the guide books and certification of the exam. The fee is approximately
- Rs. 10,000/- for self sponsored candidates
- Rs. 5000/- for the candidates who are self sponsored and belong to ST/SC/OBC category and have an annual income of less than Rs. 4.5 Lakh per year.
- Rs. 20,000 for the candidates sponsored by companies.
For supplementary candidates, there is no application fee and a fee of Rs. 1500/- per paper for self and company sponsored candidates. The fee is Rs. 750/- for ST/SC/OBC candidates having annual income less than 4.5 Lakh per annum. The up gradation fee is also Rs. 1500/- for self sponsored candidates and Rs. 750 for ST/SC/OBC candidates having annual income less than 4.5 Lakh per annum.
