Can female cab drivers really prevent untoward incidents?

Can female cab drivers really prevent untoward incidents?

Introduction

The recent Uber cab rape case in Delhi gave an alarm to people who use cabs, especially women. We have reached a point where we cannot trust cab drivers. It is high time we take some action rather than just speak out. Attacks on women show that we need women empowerment in our country. Women need to be trained in all the fields in order to safeguard themselves. Learning to drive and getting a valid license has become a necessity for women to live in this world. But let us discuss whether there will be any change if female cab drivers take the responsibility?

YES– Women cabs can prevent untoward incidents.

1. Comfort- Women cabs can provide much more safety to the female passengers and would definitely make them feel comfortable.

2. Availability– Many women, due to their low educational qualification, are unable to find jobs. Women cabs can provide such women with employment once they learn driving.

3. Reliability – Women cabs will be more approachable. We can rely on them for any help which may be required during the journey and the chances of getting the help are higher.

4. Trustworthy –Most of the women are found trustworthy and they give their complete attention to their job. So the productivity of the job will not decrease with female drivers.

5. Improved Technology – Women cabs will be provided with the latest technology within the cab itself. For example, the She Taxi in Kerala provides facilities like e-payment, automatic connection to the nearest police station, etc.

NO– Women Cab cannot prevent the untoward incidents.

1. Weaker Sex – Women are considered to be the weaker sex. It is a difficult task for women to drive a public vehicle. Women will not be able to face the challenges which will come their way and thus they cannot provide complete safety to their passengers.

2. Availability – Most of the women also have their household chores and their family to look after. So, in such cases, they may not be available all the time.

3. Unfaithful – At times, even women get involved in misguiding passengers. They may portray themselves to be trustworthy but at the end, they may ditch the passengers. So we should be cautious even when we travel with female drivers.

4. Lack of knowledge – Today, most of the women cab provide good technology within the cab itself. But, if the driver is unable to grasp the knowledge regarding the use of the technologies, then there is no guarantee of the passenger's safety. Women who enter this profession are mostly the ones who lack a proper education.

5. Change of mentality– The mentality of men has to be changed. Only then, even the female cab drivers will be willing to work.

Conclusion

Women Cabs gained importance due to the increasing crime rates in all the cities. Women Cabs should be made available only for women at all times. Traveling with a female driver is far better than traveling with a male at odd hours. But the agencies should make sure that the cab driver has got a proper training before she enters into this profession.

  • There is also risk here, if passengers behaved untoward to to the women driver what would replacing the cab drivers with women! There should be change in mentality of men. A male child should grown in a aspect that e should respect women,a women is the one who is responsible for him to live in this world. He should be truthful for his love. He should be thought to control his feelings, emotions from his childhood. He should not be grown like a pet, he should know the every difficulties in life parents should teach him, support him, make him courageous to face the problem.
Then there will be chances harassment over women would be decreased! At last but not least respect women which shows indirect respect to mother, your love, our country & even to god we praise!

  • The prime concern lies in the thinking and mindset of the society and the people. Firstly we should aim at raising the male child with a healthy mind-set and make them respect females with equal status and prestige. Secondly, we should stop calling and accepting females as weaker section of the society. Without having a change at the root level, we cannot have any sound output in our efforts in preventing untoward incidents.

The availability or considering females as weaker is not actually a concern, rather we should think more practically before having female cab drivers. Do these female cab drivers only board females? If no, even a male passenger can harm the female cab driver. Second, do these female drivers have any sort of special security, as any road side stranger can halt the cab forcibly and misbehave with the females within the cab including the driver. Third, these female cab drivers would also be appointed by some or the other organization, and what is the surety that these female cab drivers would not be harassed by their male employers?

These questions have no end. It is not the gender of the cab driver that requires a change, but the mind-set of the common man requires to be purified. Instead of calling down upon a harassed girl, if the society shows its eagerness and anger in getting the accused arrested and punished, our females can be a lot more safe and secure. If common man starts caring for others passing near him, instead of turning away from the place of offense, we can stop a lot many crimes from occurring. If our police could act a bit more briskly and if our political and legal system could work without corruption, we can resolve a lot many lingering cases going on for years now.

It is really high time to focus on the main agendas and start the repair work from the base instead of just restructuring the superficial layer. Change the mind-set and not the can drivers.
