Computers and Internet have been increasingly and profoundly changing the ways of learning in the last couple of decades. While books continue to be the most important source of learning in major part of the world, digital devices have permeated fast into our lives changing the we learn.

The increasing stress on digital learning has led to the metamorphosis in the techniques of learning. The internet provides access to humungous amount of information and this can cater to possibly every set of audience. Youngsters have got hooked on to internet and computers for finding out information as it is not only portable but can also provide instant updates on any development.

However, books remain the main source of learning still for millions of people worldwide. Since a large part of the world still reels with difficulties pertaining to electricity as well as being unable to afford a computer, traditional means of learning through books continue to be an essential part of their learning. It is also felt that since books are written by few authors and experts, the content in books tends to be concise and to-the point. This makes it easier to read a book instead of going through reams of online pages to find relevant information.

Books have been the main source of learning since the last few centuries when man discovered printing press. Even today, schools and parents both try and inculcate the habit of reading books in children. On the flipside, carrying books having lot of information can also be cumbersome. While the internet updates itself in fraction of a second, books only update themselves when the new edition gets printed. Hence, the learning can sometimes also be limited through the books in a world which is increasingly tracking latest developments.

With the increasing usage of mobile phones, computers and internet, e-learning has only increased. While people in villages may not know how to read or write, usage of computers and internet in educating them can go a long way in changing their lives. Cost effective e-learning methodologies have already started making some impact and it is estimated that the broadening reach of computers and internet in the world is likely to bring about a tremendous change in learning.

Yet, it would be impossible for the internet to replace books as the main source of learning in the near future. Computers have constantly been making a difference since the last three decades in methods of learning yet books continue to be the indispensable source of learning.
