- This is genuinely a pleasant read, keep sharing such articles! I have keen interest in this field as this is one of the highest paid field both in public and private sector..hahaha but this is not the only factor, I have interest too in this field. I am planning to join UTM Shillong to pursue this course as its one of the finest university in North India (Though you have not listed it here) with great faculty, infrastructure & placement records. I hope I would make a bright career from there. So, just keep motivating me with your useful posts, I would love to be your regular reader. Thanks again for this awesome piece!

- Introduction
Petroleum engineering is a field of engineering where a candidate learns and understands working of major parts of petroleum industry. Petroleum engineer basically research, discover and develop natural sources of oil and examine it. Engineers design and develop machines and equipments to extract and process the oil procedure. Engineers in this field work as drilling engineers, production engineers and reservoir engineers. This filed requires dedication and hard work to work and maintain the workflow of the industry according to its industry. This includes principles of engineering as well as technological knowledge in this field. It is one of the high paying and rewarding career option to pursue. However, the growth is not being that much which has been expected.
Performance and growth of industry in India
The growth of the petroleum industry is increasing rapidly. The consumption in this area is increasing and according to the reports Exxon mobile sources, liquid fuels consumption is been increased to 85 million barrels per day in 2010. The jobs in this field are increasing and the country is exploiting its huge oil reservoirs to sell its petroleum products. “India has total reserves of 1201 million metric tones of crude oil”. Crude oil production in 2009-10 is being 33.69 million metric tones and it is 0.55% higher than what it was in 2008-09. Production of natural gas is being highest in JVC at 44.94%. The consumption of petroleum is also in high demand and it is increasing as more and more people are using the resources more than ever before.
Options and Opportunities
The opportunities are high and it is on the verge of increasing more in upcoming years. Engineers in this field can go in petroleum sectors and companies which deal with oil and reservoir. The growth is worldwide and ample job opportunities are also available in India as well as abroad. The salaries of engineers are high and they can also apply in government sector as well as private sector.
