Career path and univerisities to pursue a career in Marine Biology
I want to pursue a career in Marine Biology. I am a high school student in science stream. I have been inspired by the marine life since a long time and I aspire to take this ahead in my further studies. I am open to studying in India and abroad after 10+2. Please suggest me the career path and the universities in India and abroad where I can study Marine Biology.
Marine Biology offers a wide number of careers to be pursued after varied level of degrees and programs. Marine biologists are in demand both in India and abroad for various jobs. I would advise that you go for an undergraduate degree after 10+2 from an institution that offers graduate-level Marine Biology programs. Alternatively, if your college does not offer this program, you can go for an undergraduate program in Biology and take summer or any extra marine-specified courses. You can also look for an internship with nearby schools or marine labs. Marine Biology offers job prospects in private as well as government lab at research based job positions. Studying marine biology from a foreign institute would be more beneficiary for your career, no doubt, but that doesn’t mean that you would be at a loss if you study the same course from a reputed Indian institute.
In India I would suggest two such institutes that offer undergraduate as well as PhD courses in Marine Biology:
